Carnaval em Santa Teresa
Oil on Canvas 46 x 38 cm
The history of Carnival in Rio de Janeiro is closely related to trams. In the past when this was the city`s main means of transport, the old trams were transformed in real allegories of the event. Nowadays they only run in Santa Teresa and are still important elements of Carnival informal parades. Groups of musicians are formed and they have scheduled time to go out. Some of them don´t reveal their schedules until the last moment to avoid overcrowd as the streets of this district are narrow, but this always proves to have no effect at all! "Bloco da Carmelitas", "Bloco Céu na Terra" and "Songorocosongo" are some of these bands.
